The very first Chamber of Commerce (ever) founded was in Marseille, France in 1599 which was over 425 years ago! The oldest Chamber of Commerce in North America is the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1750. Then 150 years later we were born...

2025 marks 125 years that the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce has been in operation. Founded in May 1900, the Chamber has been around before Alberta was even founded as a province!

With the Centennial Year in 2000, the Chamber commemorated the first 100 year history and produced this historic video.

The Chamber continues to be a grassroots not-for-profit business network built by business for business, and as we go into 2025 we have some exciting things planned...

Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce Legacy Fund

We were pleased to establish an endowment fund with the Community Foundation of Southeast Alberta (CFSEA) with an initial contribution of $1,000 from the Chamber of Commerce Legacy Committee, establishing the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce Legacy Fund. The fund was established to commemorate the Chamber's 125th year in operation with the goal of awarding our first grant in the 2025 year.

This open fund allows anyone to contribute to grow the fund, ultimately increasing the distribution amount year after year. The Chamber Legacy Committee will initiate a call for applications when the fund is able to provide contributions from the interest, selecting a deserving recipient and project that supports entrepreneurial development and education for future business growth in the community.

You can donate to the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce Legacy Fund fund by sending your contribution to donations@cfsea.ca. You can also contribute monthly online through Canada Helps by clicking the link below.

Hosting the 2025 Alberta Chambers of Commerce AGM

The SEACC commemorated its 125th anniversary by hosting the 87th Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) Annual General Meeting and Policy Plenary Session in Medicine Hat from May 29 to 31. This milestone event brought close to 200 delegates from across Alberta with 31 Chambers to celebrate a legacy of business leadership and to shape the province’s economic future.

The three-day event featured a dynamic mix of networking, policy debate, and community celebration, including the ceremonial unveiling of “Commerce Way” and a gala at Medalta in the historic Clay District. The Chamber’s legacy, dating back to 1900, was honored alongside its continued role as a catalyst for regional economic growth.

From its origins as the Medicine Hat Board of Trade in 1900 to its current role as a regional economic driver, the Chamber has consistently championed business interests, community development, and policy innovation
