2024 ACC AGM and Policy Conference Recap

This past weekend the Southeast Alberta Chamber was in Red Deer for the 86th Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) 2024 AGM and Policy Conference! It was an incredible couple of days as we celebrated the Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce’s 130th year alongside attending the Policy Conference where we debated and adopted 22 policy resolutions for the Alberta Chambers of Commerce to carry forward in their recommendations for Government. Policy recommendations put forward address issues ranging from electricity supply solutions to bolstering emerging industries and the environment. We also had the opportunity to attend education sessions including Funding Strategies for Non profits, insight and impacts of community housing and crime, tapping into Alberta Talent Pool and Supply Chain as well as a leadership panel by various Past Chairs of the Alberta Chambers of Commerce. We enjoyed a tour of the Fortis Alberta Training facility and were entertained through a fun night in Red Deer's downtown.

One of the main reasons for attending was to announce that the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce will be hosting next year’s ACC AGM in celebration of our own 125th year anniversary! We were able to pitch our 2025 Conference and encourage people to come to Southeast Alberta and take a bit of an extended vacation to explore the Sunny Southeast and Experience the Energy that we have to offer. We provide delegates some information from both Tourism Medicine Hat and the Medicine Hat Accommodation Association to promote our region. We came away with many ideas to incorporate into next year's event and to help promote sponsorship and engagement from our local community! If you have questions or want to be involved in the conference in May 2025, contact us at events@medicinehatchamber.com .

All in all it was a very eventful couple of days and we're existed for Next Year's event and hosting around 150 delegates in our Region!

Brooks-Newell Region News

AUC withdraws PACE’s Brooks Solar Project Application

With no activity for five months the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) has withdrawn Pace’s application to construct a solar farm in northwest Brooks but a Pace representative is not concerned.
Pace had registered the project last November. In December the AUC put the application into abeyance after the company indicated that the application and supporting documents would be filed in early January. Claude Mindorff, director of development at Pace, said the withdrawn application is just procedural. Mindorff expects to reapply to the AUC in about two weeks.
In addition to the Brooks project, the company has proposed a solar project in Bassano and tonight the company is hosting its first information session.https://brooksbulletin.com/auc-withdraws-paces-brooks-solar-project-application/
